Mitten Smitten: Songwriters In-the-Round @ Crooked Tree Arts Center

Three female vocalists and musicians take to the stage at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey to perform original songs and covers. Blake Elliott has a recipe for a sweet sound: start with a little folk, throw in some jazz, add a touch of funk, and finish off with a healthy dose of the blues and soul. Elliott delivers an eclectic mix of original music that blends the present with the past.

Jen Sygit has three albums under her belt with her latest release "So Long Pollyanna" named as album of the year by both John Bommarito (107.1 fm Ann Arbor, MI) and The Progressive Torch & Twang (88.9 fm East Lansing, MI). "So Long Pollyanna" was also nominated for two Jammie Awards (WYCE Grand Rapids, MI) including Best Song for "Sugar High". Her previous release "Leaving Marshall St." was nominated for a Detroit Music Award for BEST ACOUSTIC/FOLK ALBUM in 2007 and made it to number 9 on the independent roots music charts that year.

Michigan’s Rachel Brooke might just be one of the best kept secrets in country music. Growing up performing in the family bluegrass band, as well as women-fronted punk bands, Rachel Brooke’s honesty, authenticity and DIY work ethic has earned her the title of “The Queen of Underground Country”
